Black Forest Real Estate

The Black Forest area in Colorado, USA, has a long history that dates back to Native American tribes, who occupied the area around 800 years ago. The area was later settled by American pioneers in the late 1850s and became an important center of activity for timber. Logging in the area reached its peak in 1870, when over 700 teamsters and 1,000 lumberjacks and tie hacks were employed, mostly for railway work. However, by the 1880s, farming and ranching had become the dominant activities, and a wide variety of crops were raised, including cattle, sheep, alfalfa, wheat, corn, hay, and potatoes. Today, the area retains much of its rural character and historic legacy, despite the expansion of the nearby Colorado Springs metropolitan area.
